But things are slowly hyped up and foreshadowed. Not much happens until you hit the 75% mark. ![]() Like her previous books, this one starts slow. Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a master at amping up the tension before finally paying us off with emotionally and thematically charged climaxes. This is a reimagining superior than the original book, featuring eugenics, body horror, colonialism, racism, colorism, sexism, and religion. You do not need to read the original book, The Island of Doctor Moreau, to understand The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. I never read HG Wells and I have no intention to read his books either. ![]()
